Any advice finding a property manager to assist in nc ?

Congratulations on passing your Kaplan exam! In my experience most companies want to see that you have passed the license exam before bringing you on board. However, there is nothing wrong with reaching out now to try and meet and see available positions. Job sites are a good place to search "property manager" or "property management assistant" to see what firms are looking for help.

Another piece of advice I would give is pay attention to the rentals that are available in your area. If you are seeing the same company with a lot of the rental listings they are busy enough that they may need help. Signs in the yard, listings online are all places where you can find the company names. Searching the property manager companies in your area could also get you a list of places to try.
