Re: Career Mentor Connect- Thursday June 12th- 'Ask Me Anything'
Hey there @Angelakc6yit – congrats on taking the leap into real estate! 🎉 As a brand-new agent, the brokerage you choose can truly shape the trajectory of your career – so you're absolutely asking the right question.
Here’s what to consider when choosing the right broker:
1. Training & Mentorship = GOLD
Especially when you're new, training is everything. Look for a broker that offers:
- Structured onboarding (not just a manual and a "good luck")
- Mentorship or coaching programs
- Live training or in-office support (not just video replays)
- Shadowing opportunities – seeing agents in action is powerful.
You’ll make more money long-term by learning to do it right early on – not by going solo and figuring it out the hard way.
2. Culture & Support
Ask yourself:
- Do I feel supported and encouraged here?
- Can I ask “dumb” questions without being judged?
- Are the agents happy, collaborative, and successful?
A healthy culture beats high splits any day – because when you're surrounded by winners, you become one too.
3. Commission Splits vs. Value
Yes, splits matter – but don’t get blinded by dollar signs. A 100% commission doesn’t help if you're not closing deals.
Ask:
- What tools and marketing are included?
- Are there monthly fees?
- Do they offer leads? If yes, how are they distributed?
4. Broker Availability
Will your broker return your calls when you’re writing your first contract at 9pm and panicking? That matters. Big time
5. Your Gut
Visit the office. Talk to agents. Interview more than one brokerage. You’re not applying for a job – you’re partnering with a business. You deserve to feel excited and supported.
Final Thoughts:
Training is “all that” in the beginning. You’ll learn to make your own money if you’re given the tools and support. Pick the place where you’ll grow into a confident, competent agent – the money will follow.
You got this! 💪
