We want to hear from the parents who’ve been there.

What’s the best piece of advice you’d give to someone just starting their campus visits?

    Hi,

I've spent the past few months doing college tours with my son and I think the "open houses" or "college fairs" can be great to get information on academic programs, but I found those tours to be very crowded. I preferred visiting the campus on our own (maybe a weekday) and being in a small tour group. It was much easier to go into the smaller areas, such as classrooms, dorms etc. than compared to being in a larger group. I also found it was easier to have a conversation with the tour guide who can really give you good insights into the school.

We toured two universities in one day. It was a lot of walking. However, it was great to see the differences while the experience was fresh. I would recommend it if you are physically able and the universities are close to each other. We also went to college fairs, but it's just not the same thing as being given a tour of a dorm room, and my son feeling what living there would be like.
