What surprised you most about the college admissions process?
As our kids get closer to graduation, the 'college talk' starts to feel a lot more real. Whether you’re just starting to look at schools or you’ve already sent off the final applications, we’ve all had those moments where we realized things aren't quite like they were when we applied! I’d love to hear about your journey so far: What surprised you most about the college admissions process?

We discovered how great "rolling admissions" were. My son applied as soon as applications opened in the late summer/early fall and found out he was accepted within a couple of weeks.
This was amazing…mostly because it took the pressure off the unknown. He KNEW he had a college that wanted him. He had a place to go!
This also works well in the spring, after acceptances start rolling in and kids aren't getting the results they want. They can apply after most of the college admissions deadlines.

My son took a concurrent enrollment course in high school. This involved registering him at the community college that offered the credits. That means he is already accepted and registered as a student. Now, we just choose his Fall schedule at the college instead of going through an admission process. I still suggest reaching out to the college because we found out that there is a mandatory orientation that he needs to attend.
