What do you do if you forget to share something in your interview?

You’ve walked out of the building (or closed the Zoom window), the adrenaline starts to fade, and then it hits you: that perfect example or that crucial certification you completely forgot to mention. 🫠 We’ve all been there—staring at the ceiling, thinking about the 'missing' 10% of our story.

What do you do if you forget to share something crucial in an interview, or what advice would you give someone trying to make a post-interview save?

This has happened to me a couple of times…mostly because I am usually focused on the interview questions. I usually follow up in my thank you email and say something like this…

Subject Thank you – and one quick follow-up

    Hi [Interviewer’s Name],

Thank you again for taking the time to speak with me today. I really enjoyed our conversation, especially [mention something specific you discussed…this helps you stand out immediately].

After reflecting on our conversation, I realized I didn’t mention something that directly relates to what you’re looking for.

[Insert what you forgot here…keep it concise, relevant, and results-focused. Example: “In my previous role, I led a project where we increased engagement by 40% by…”]

I wanted to share that because it’s closely aligned with [tie it back to their need or the role].

I’m even more excited about the opportunity to contribute to your team and help [briefly mention their goal or mission].

Thanks again, and I hope to continue the conversation.

    Best,
    [Your Name]
