The Bio-Biochem section, like most of the MCAT, doesn't test students in the same way as most university coursework. As such, to succeed on the MCAT you will likely need to approach it differently from previous exams. The MCAT is not only testing if you know the facts about biology, chemistry, biochemistry in biological systems, but making sure that you can connect the dots between those facts and apply them to novel situations. This is why there's so many passages that require students to understand experimental methodologies and how to interpret data from studies. It's true that you need to study and know the common terms and concepts, but the best way to actually succeed in this section (and all sections) of the MCAT is to make sure you're solving actual MCAT problems! Don't study for this section, PRACTICE for this section.

Beyond doing MCAT passages for practice, you can look up studies in Nature, Science, or any of the popular research journals and get used to interpreting data and identifying goals and hypotheses of studies. Additionally, you can go to any public library to find a practice resource for the ACT. Not surprisingly, the skills needed for the science section of the ACT are similar to the skills you'll need for the MCAT!
