Thalamus Account: Your Guide to Residency Interview Scheduling

What is a Thalamus account?
Thalamus is a Graduate Medical Education (GME) interview management and scheduling platform. It's widely used by residency and fellowship programs to streamline their interview process.
Think of it as a central hub that streamlines the interview process for both programs and applicants.
Programs: Can manage applicants, send out interview invitations, build interview itineraries, conduct virtual interviews, score applicants, and generate reports.
Applicants: Can receive and respond to interview invitations, self-schedule interview dates and times, view their interview itineraries, and sometimes even conduct the virtual interview directly through the platform.
Here’s what you should know:
- You don't create a Thalamus account from scratch beforehand. Instead, when a residency program that uses Thalamus extends an interview invitation to you, they will send you an email with a unique link or token. This link will then prompt you to finalize or activate your Thalamus account.
- Most ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service) programs use Thalamus. The AAMC (Association of American Medical Colleges), which runs ERAS, has a strategic collaboration with Thalamus. This means that when you register for MyERAS, a Thalamus account is often automatically created for you, and you'll receive an email to finalize it.
- It's how you manage interviews. If a program uses Thalamus for scheduling, you must use your Thalamus account to select your interview date, view your interview day itinerary, and sometimes even participate in the virtual interview itself.
