Florida Nurses: New Background Check Required Starting July 1, 2025

Important Update for Florida Nurses: New Background Screening Required
Effective July 1, 2025, the State of Florida is implementing a new background screening requirement for all health care practitioners, including nurses, for both initial licensure and license renewals. This critical change mandates a fingerprint-based background check through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE).
If your Florida nursing license is scheduled for renewal on or after July 1, 2025, and you have not previously undergone a state and federal (Level 2) background check that meets the new requirements, you must complete this fingerprint screening. Failure to comply could impact your license status, so don’t delay!
