Kaplan MCAT Q bank vs U world
MCAT Student
🔬Hopefully I don't get in trouble talking about a competitor on here but i was on a MCAT reddit group and wanted to see what peoples thoughts were on Kaplan Q bank vs U world Q bank and they were overly negative about the Kaplan Q bank and now I feel like on top of the kaplan course I bought that i should buy the U world Q bank. Can someone please reassure me that Kaplan Q bank is in fact a good representative resource for the MCAT, i dont want to feel like i am wasting my time when theres a better way to study. It doesn't help that all my peers swear by U world but I dont see the point if i already bought the Kaplan course where they have a Q bank as well. Additionally, what is a good percentage to be aiming for on the Kaplan Q bank I couldn't seem to find anything online cause for U world (for example) people say 60 to 70% is good?

Hi Ali
All questions are welcome! So, here's my take: it doesn't matter which resource you use, it's HOW you use it. It's important that you have access to a resource that allows you to select for specific topics, which you can do through both the content refresher/application modules as well as the Kaplan Qbank. Students often has preferences, but that doesn't mean it's a guarantee that you'll find success with only a specific resource.
Any Qbank is best used to help you understand how to solve problems for a particular topic or get more exposure. As such, I would NOT recommend you use it as an assessment, you're meant to make mistakes on it. Aiming for a particular percentage defeats the purpose of that kind of practice, it makes you very hesitant to learn from and to try new things out. The only assessments that count are the later scaled practice tests.
Hope that helps, and let us know if you have any questions.
