Hi, all, hope you had a great weekend!

So far we've talked about Who You Are, What You Do, and Where You Are.

Step 4 will focus on Why You're Interested in Medicine.

Clearly articulating why you want to devote your life to this career is paramount to a powerful application.

It's not enough to simply state your desire to become a doctor.

You need to have concrete insights into the profession and a vision for what you'd like to achieve.

Drawing upon the steps we've covered till now, think about the following questions:

  1. Why do you want to become a physician?
    1. Why is this the right job for you?
    2. What skills and opportunities will you have as a doctor that you won't in another profession?
    3. What goals would you like to accomplish in this role?
  2. Do you enjoy studying science?
    1. What was your favorite science course and why?
    2. What are your greatest scientific accomplishments?
  3. Do you enjoy solving problems?
    1. Think of a time you solved a problem as a leader
    2. Think of a time you solved a problem as a team member
  4. Do you enjoy helping others?
    1. Think of a time you made another person’s life better
    2. Think of a time you made a community's life better

Your answers to these questions will help shape and personalize your application.

Let me know if you have any questions and check back soon for Step 5!
