I'm testing in January, what should I be focusing on in December?

You’ve spent the semester preparing, and now the holidays are here... with family, travel, and disrupted routines. Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Many January testers face the same challenge of staying consistent during December.

The good news? Most of the heavy lifting is behind you. December is the time to refine strategies, sharpen endurance, and build confidence. This means shifting your focus to passage-based practice. Prioritize the AAMC Qbanks and section banks you’ve saved, since these best reflect the style you’ll see on test day. (And if you run out, Kaplan has plenty more to pull from.)

One strategy I loved in this final block is the “mini-MCAT.” Take half a section from each subject, adjust the timing (45 minutes for half of a 90-minute section), and practice under exam-like conditions. Then review the same day or the next morning. This keeps you fresh, highlights weak areas, and helps you manage fatigue without the toll of a full-length exam.

As you do your full-lengths, also start simulating test day: take breaks without your phone, eat the same lunch you’ll have on exam day, and stick to realistic timing. These small adjustments can make a big difference in test-day confidence.

Remember, you’re in the homestretch! December is less about cramming content and more about refining strategy and practicing smart. Balance study with the holidays, stay consistent, and trust the work you’ve already put in.
