The ideal study timeline for the MCAT varies for each individual, based on their academic background, available study hours, and target scores. For those testing in one, two, and three months, here is a guide that outlines key areas of focus at each milestone.

Crucial to your MCAT prep are daily CARS practice, 'How I'll Fix It/Why I Missed It' (WIMI/HIFI) analysis, targeted drills to address weak spots, and full-length AAMC practice tests. Make use of the test prep software, Kaplan offers an online schedule that helps you go through the curriculum based on your availability and projected test day. Dedicate at least 4 hours daily to studying, and prioritize rest to prevent a scattered brain.

Key Areas of Focus

One month before:

Complete three AAMC practice tests (one per week), WIMI/HIFI analysis, and targeted drills. Here is a recommended week’s schedule:

Day

Spend the first 4 hours of studying ..

Day 1

Full-length AAMC practice test

Days 2-3

WIMI/HIFI analysis and targeted drills

Days 4-6

More targeted drills

Day 7

REST

Two months before:

Complete two practice tests per week (one AAMC, one non-AAMC), following the same analysis and targeted drills. Here is a recommended week’s schedule:

Day

Spend the first 4 hours of studying ..

Day 1

Full-length AAMC practice test

Days 2-3

WIMI/HIFI analysis and targeted drills

Days 4

Full-length non-AAMC practice test

Days 5-6

WIMI/HIFI analysis and targeted drills

Day 7

REST

Three months before:

Review all MCAT subjects thoroughly and systematically and practice with a half non-AAMC test per week. I highly recommend writing the key takeaways and equations of each chapter of the MCAT workbooks on flashcards. Ask a family member or friend to test you.

Be well-prepared to tackle the MCAT with confidence!
