☀️How to Summer Smarter 😎- Part 2

Hello Pre-Meds! I’m Baasit Jamal, a Kaplan MCAT Faculty member, and this is part 2 of my tips for making the most of your final summer before medical school.

Look out for parts 3 and 4 coming later this week, and if you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments below!

Tip #2: You might think you're ready for how much you need to study in medical school, but you're not. And that's absolutely fine!

A lot of people equate the information you get during medical school to be like drinking water from a firehose, and that's exactly how I felt through the first few weeks of my time there. I personally had never felt imposter syndrome until the first week of medical school, simply because glucose metabolism - a topic that I thought I knew pretty well - was overwhelming in the hidden intricacies that I had never even thought about. But you've developed the study skills and the habits that have already helped you succeed in undergrad, and you can build further upon those to succeed in medical school.

There are many resources to use when you start medical school - your school's own lectures and any third-party resources they provide to you should be your first priority because you're already paying for them. Anki is another tool you can use to study, using premade decks that you can find online. Try out each one, and be flexible in your approach; during my preclinical years, I focused on first party resources, Kaplan, and Boards & Beyond; however, when it came time to study for Step 1, things weren't sticking so I had to make a deal with the devil and start using Anki. Which brings me to... (tip #3, which I'll share later in the week!)
