Kidney/Parasympathetic/Bladder question
MCAT Student
🔬For a long time I thought that the parasympathetic nervous system increasing contraction of the bladder meant that urination would occur less frequently. After reading about the bladder I want to make sure I get this straight. When the bladder is full a signal is sent that increases parasympathetic activation. This increase in activation causes the contraction of the bladder then the opening of the internal sphincter of the urethra thereby giving the sensation of needing to urinate.

Hi Jacob. You're correct, PNS activation of the bladder results in contraction, resulting in urinary flow. Think about this from the broader scope of rest/digest - urination would be a component of that digestive system.
