🚨

It's the summer before your third year of law school and you are wondering what you can do now to help set yourself up for success in the future. Here are a few ways to get the most out of your 2L summer:

  • Network: Whether you are completing an internship, judicial clerkship, or taking summer classes, make sure you use this time to expand your network (anyone from fellow interns to legal assistants and opposing counsel). Use this time to attend networking events and maintain connections with the people you meet - you never know what future opportunity might arise from the relationships you build!

  • Build Your Portfolio: As you work through your internship, do not be afraid to ask your direct supervisor for feedback on your legal writing. Your goal toward the end of the summer should be to seek writing samples that can later be used for job applications. If permitted, be sure to keep copies of your best work (redacted for confidentiality) to showcase your skills to future employers.

  • Plan Your Next Steps: Use the summer to assess whether the area of law you are working in is one you are passionate about and would like to pursue. If it's not, that's ok! Start preparing for the job search by making sure your resume and LinkdIn profile are up to date and practice your interview skills.

And lastly, and most importantly, enjoy your summer! Make sure you use this time to rest, relax, and recharge before your final year of law school and bar prep!
