  • Write clearly, including proper punctuation and paragraphing.
    • Avoid slang and attempts at humor.
  • Efficiently manage your time.
  • Do not volunteer irrelevant or immaterial information.
  • Keep paragraphs concise.
  • Use headings and leave white space.
  • Avoid the “data dump” and rule strings.
  • Prioritize the issues.
  • Avoid references to personal experiences and philosophies.
  • Be confident; be the authority!

    Focus on your rule statements early! The more you understand the rule, the easier it will be to hit all of the high points and ditch the unnecessary parts so that you can rattle off your multidimensional rule statements as quickly as possible. Once you have a great rule statement, it’s so much easier to give a thorough analysis and snag as many point as possible.
