When our daughter Addison started college, we never imagined her journey would take her all the way to Walt Disney World—but thanks to the Disney College Program (DCP), it did.

Addison discovered the program early in her freshman year and took full initiative—researching, applying, interviewing, and getting accepted entirely on her own. We were incredibly proud of her independence and motivation.

After being accepted, Addison had to wait several weeks to learn her specific role. DCP participants are placed based on the company’s operational needs, with roles ranging from attractions and food service to lifeguarding and retail. When she was assigned as a dispatcher at a deluxe resort, she was thrilled. The position aligned perfectly with her interest in hospitality and guest services.

From the moment she arrived, Addison experienced a smooth and welcoming start. Orientation week introduced her to Disney’s values, cast member expectations, and role-specific training. She quickly made friends, and the group enjoyed visits to the Disney parks in their free time—a fun and memorable way to begin the experience.

One thing that impressed us as parents was the program’s structure and support system. Disney has clear safeguards in place and holds participants accountable, which helps them maintain a strong work ethic and develop professionalism. Addison was expected to meet high standards, and in doing so, she gained both confidence and pride in her work.

As she settled into her role, Addison also took on new responsibilities. She was honored to help train a group of incoming DCP participants—a leadership opportunity that reflected her growth and dedication. Watching her step into that kind of role affirmed that the experience was helping her become more capable and confident.

Initially, Addison signed up for a six-month program, but she loved it so much that she extended her stay to a full year. That decision said everything—she was thriving both personally and professionally.

Living across the country from us, Addison has grown in ways we couldn’t have imagined. She’s developed life skills like budgeting, time management, communication, and independence—all while gaining valuable real-world job experience in a unique and fast-paced environment.

The Disney College Program gave her so much more than a job. It gave her confidence, purpose, and the chance to grow into the young adult we always hoped she would become. We’re beyond grateful for this opportunity—and we couldn’t be more proud.

A little bit about me…

I’m a 5th-grade teacher who believes learning should be active, joyful, and just a little bit magical—kind of like a day at Disney! I’ve been visiting Disney parks since I was a kid, and now I get to share that love of wonder and adventure with both my students and my family. When I’m not in the classroom or cheering on my daughter through milestones like the Disney College Program, you’ll find me walking (and walking... and walking!) as I train for Susan G. Komen 3-Day events or hanging out with my favorite four-legged sidekick—Auggie, my lovable golden retriever. I believe in hard work, big dreams, and the power of showing up with heart.

Thanks for sharing this Jenny! Loved hearing about Addison's (and your) experience!

Where was she placed while she was there?

After the program was over for her, did she stay working at Disney?

  • Love this! I did the DCP twice in undergrad, once at Windtraders in Animal Kingdom and once at Pizzerizzo's in Hollywood Studios! It was a great experience for me to be able to live away from home and learn to be fully responsible with my time while also having so much fun.
