ðŸ§Curating Your Resume and Cover Letters: The Recruiter’s Compass Series

José Bidó, Manager, Corporate Talent Acquisition, is back this week with how to utilize your resume and cover letters in this competitive market.
📢Let's hear it from José:
Tailoring your resume and cover letter for each application is absolutely crucial... I can't stress this enough!Â
Recruiters can spot a generic application instantly, so you need to show them you've done your homework and genuinely want that specific job.Â
This means customizing your summary, objective, bullet points, and the entire cover letter to directly address the unique requirements and responsibilities outlined in that particular job posting.Â
In doing so, always aim to mirror the language of the job description, which helps both Application Tracking System (ATS) and human reviewers see your direct fit.Â
When it comes to formatting, keep it clean and simple. Fancy fonts, intricate designs, graphics, and tables can often confuse (ATS), so opt for a clear, chronological, and easy-to-read format.Â
Finally, it's important to be aware that companies worldwide are facing a growing problem with fake candidates and scammers who use various tactics to deceive employers, including submitting perfect-looking resumes and multiple applications to the same posting. Because companies are increasingly using special technologies and tools to detect these fraudulent applications, it's more important than ever to complete job applications thoroughly and submit all relevant, authentic information to back up your experience, such as your resume and genuine letters of recommendation.
Make sure you are doing your due diligence in this competitive market.
Love to learn about this from Jose so keep an eye out for our next set of tips and tricks from Jose next week!Â

The job market has been crazy lately. I've seen so many people talking about applying at 100s of places with little or no results.
While I agree with José that you should mirror the job posting and have a clean format…I'm not sure that is really making a huge impact.
In recent months, getting an interview has gotten A LOT harder!
It's interesting to hear that companies are facing a problem with fake candidates.
I think there are also lots of fake postings from companies where the job doesn't really exist. OR the job conditions (remote vs in-office and even salary) change once you are in the interview stage.
Companies want people to think they are actively hiring and growing. But if you watch the job market, you'll see the same job listings appear over and over. To me, that means it's a horrible place to work and they can't retain the people they hire, or they really aren't hiring…but instead just posting the job.2
